The greatest man i will ever know. He taught me about an honest days work, keeping your word, the importance of family, respect to others as well as respecting myself , the meaning of marriage ,the power of GOD and what love means, as well as many life lessons. some lessons came easy some took a knock up side the head. I remember when i was sick in the hospital he would walk for blocks just to get a pizza and eat it with me wasnt his favorite but he did it for me sat for hours playing cards with me colored with me made pics for me to hang in my hospital room. He didnt say the words often but he showed his love with everything he did. He was a bit of a hard ass but a soft loving heart. I hope i raised my kids with the values you raised us with. I love you daddy i love you so much. The world is a little sadder without you in it. RIP Thank you so much for being my daddy. You are the best man i will ever know.

Q: What 3 words best describe Ray and why?
A: Hard working
Loving
Stubborn
My name is Lilly Carlson (Pam & Tom's granddaughter). Some of my memories of Papa Ray are learning his middle name by Grandma Lois yelling "Ray Earl" to him. Him asking for half a cup of coffee and a cookie. And taking the time to tell me stories about his youth and military days.

The first memory of Papa Ray was wow he is a giant. And I remember thinking I want to be as big as him someday and now look at me I am the giant. I remember coming up to help with wood and going to his house for holidays. I wish I would have had more time to get to know him better. I loved him and I miss him but we will see each other again with God.

At their grandson Tim wedding they had a last couple standing dance. The DJ calls out years married ex if you been married 10 years or more stay on the dance floor all others please leave. The number keeps going up higher and higher. Grandma and Grandpa were the last ones on the dance floor by a long shot. Truly a love to aspire to.

My name is Daniel Noody I am married to Amanda, Ray and Lois' granddaughter, Pam and Tom's daughter.
When Amanda took me to meet her grandparents for the first time I was nervous, more scared then meeting my father in law cause Amanda was/is their baby girl they love her so much. When we got to their house Grandma and Grandpa were outside doing yard work. I was introduced to Grandma first then my fears were justified when Grandpa came out of the garage running a chainsaw.
He was a great man and it is an honor to be a part of his life. I went hunting with him, helped cut wood to heat the house, celebrated many holidays together, I will miss those sportsman dinners we went to. His loved his family with his while heart and we will all feel this lose for the rest of our lives. I will miss you Grandpa until we see each other again.

So many memories to share. I could fill a whole book. For the last 3 years I have interviewed my Poppy and Grandma writing it all down. It started as a gift to my mom (Pam) for Christmas. But there were days I would just sit and listen to the stories from his youth, his time in the army, when he knew Grandma was the one, Making a life with her, my mom and aunt when they were young, family vacations, work etc. and I would realize I was so busy listening that I didn't write a single word down that day. So I started to record our little Q & A So I could go back and listen. Before I could get it transferred all the files were erased by my youngest son. That is something we can never recover and that saddens my heart but if I sit with my eyes closed I can still hear his voice telling me every story. That I will treasure forever. It makes me think of that song by The Judds "Grandpa tell me about the good old days"
I LOVE YOU POPPY ❤ the world is a little darker without you in it.

Grandpa was there for every family occasion big or small. High school graduation, weddings, family picnics. There to take care of me after both my surgeries and by take care I mean steal my pillow and hide it every chance he got. And shooting Chipmunks out the kitchen window without any notice.

It is with great sadness to hear of Uncle Ray’s passing. My father Max his brother was very fond of him. I had the privilege to visit Uncle Ray and Aunt Lois a few times not long ago passing through. A very proud Man among men. Served his Country, family and God proudly. As requested we will proudly donate to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation in his name. As a Veteran and contributor ourselves we understand the work that they do for Veterans and first responders. Love to all. Danny and Charlene Barefoot.

I heard a saying once that said "I don't want to have a love like Romeo and Juliet I want a love story like Grandma and Grandpa" 73 years together through everything. With God and each other they got through everything.
