My sympathies to the family of Mike Collopy
I met mike about 47 years ago at East High. He introduced me to great fishing on the Cattaraugus creek . We fished together on the cat until Mike could no longer do so
I used to love being ahead of Mike by one or two fish. On those rare occasions we often fished longer. The cat will no longer be the same without him.
I will miss his kindness, conversations on family, politics, education and the general state of the world
This man of honor was my coach urging me to go further up the cat. I called him “hater” at times. Anyone who knew him knew that he was quite the opposite.
With the aid of his health care providers, Dianna and his children as well as his own courage and determination,I think Mike was with us longer than we could have hoped for. He of course will continue to be with us in so many ways
I will think of my great friend often

Diana,
I am sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was a caring and thoughtful man who always made me laugh. My time spent with him over the past few years was truly an honor. I am grateful to have met Mike and to say goodbye. He would be happy to hear that my "red flag" has been lifted and that I am still welcomed at Wegmans LOL!
My thoughts and prayers are with and your family during this most difficult time.

My condolences to Mike's whole family and sister Cathy. I never knew anyone like Mike that was so dedicated to running while in school and on the Track Team.
Just a short bit of humor: I stayed at the Collopy's one time and remember Mike getting ready to go out, while attempting to spray some deodorant under his arms, he mistakenly directed it towards his face and managed to get some in his eyes.
He was one of the first school friends that used contacts and although it "smarted a bit" it did not cause any lasting effects, we laughed about it for a long time,
God be with you all at this time of sorrow:

I am deeply grieved at the moving on of a great man and coach. He will be deeply missed by all loved ones who remember his witty humor an deep concern for the athletes he coached. I am greatly honored to have been coached by him on the squad that won the 1981 indoor championship. I will always remember the great big hug he gave me after my third place finish in the 1000 yard run my freshman year at the SUNYAC Championships in 1979. He was genuinely a HUGGER! Now he will be raised in a time called the Millennium which will consist of 1000 years of peace. Rest in peace to the greatest track coach Buffalo State has seen. Love and condolences to Diana and the rest of the Collopy family!!!
